    @Andrew_Conell I´m developing a multitenant project management app and I´m confused if I should create just a single container with folders for each project inside OR should I just create a container for every project? The projects can be tens of thousands for each container. What is your suggestion?

    • @Andrew_Connell
      @Andrew_Connell 6 дней назад

      Great question... this information architecture question comes up a lot. While it's up to you, consider the following... SPE supports 100,000 Containers per Container Type (aka: an SPE app) _PER TENANT_ - this implies that Microsoft expects a single app to have lots of containers. I like to think of the security boundary. For example, consider a law firm with different cases (matter) that was using SPE to store it's document content. Each matter would have it's own container with it's own security model. Does that help? While I don't know exactly what your scenario is, I'd model out creating a seperate container PER project, rather than using folders for project organization.

    • @mrkjartanvalur
      @mrkjartanvalur 6 дней назад

      @@Andrew_Connell That´s exactly my model! This is for law firms to handle their cases. But I´m worried about search for files for all cases (search between containers) would then be hard. Ain´t that true that search between containers is not possible? Then I would have to mirror the files metadata in another database or search index to handle search. And that also becomes more complicated when you have access permissions between cases. But thank you so much for this excellent and quick response and all the work you do!

    • @Andrew_Connell
      @Andrew_Connell 6 дней назад

      "Ain´t that true that search between containers is not possible? " Nope... not true at all. Remember, a Container is _JUST_ a SharePoint document library. So when you search, all content is indexed and can be returned in the search results. By default, search returns everything (just like Microsoft 365 search) the user performing the search as permissions to see, but you can apply filters to only include a specific library (or libraries). Also, by default the content is _NOT_ visible to the rest of Microsoft 365, but you can opt-in to including it if you like. "But thank you so much for this excellent and quick response and all the work you do!" You're welcome!

    Hey, is it possible to develop word add-in that would intercept save button action (or perhaps create my own save button) that will actually create PUT HTTP request toward server from which file actually came with GET tokenized request. The goal is actually to provide clients to edit word documents without downloading them on their local PC. What type of add-in should I use here? Thanks in advance.

    • @Andrew_Connell
      @Andrew_Connell 9 дней назад

      Microsoft doesn’t let us change the behavior of existing buttons and controls in the menu/ribbon. While you can create your own button in the ribbon/task pane to do something, I don’t think you can save the whole doc to another location, only the contents of the file.

    • @IvoBralić-b1u
      @IvoBralić-b1u 9 дней назад

      @@Andrew_Connell I don't want to save doc to another location, I want to save it to same location from which I got document with GET tokenized request. Flow would be something like: User clicks edit in word inside some website It uses Office URI scheme to open it locally in Word User edits file in Word and can press custom save button to actually send PUT request to same site he got file from and he uses same token he got in GET request That should be some kind of ADDON actually and what really makes me confused id so many types of add-ins that exist, should I use COM, Office, VSTO...?

    • @Andrew_Connell
      @Andrew_Connell 9 дней назад

      So, add-ins will let you access the content WITHIN the document, not the document itself. So I don't think you can do that. IMHO, I would not use COM/VSTO... that's old tech that's no longer supported or recommended.

I do just the Azure AD app registration with SharePoint using appinv.aspx in SharePoint (no client id/secret creation). I enter the Site Permissioning XML. After that, I call the SharePoint Online APIs using the extSTS.srf login. Would this integration of my application with SharePoint be affected due to ACS retirement?

    For our intranet, we use a non-Microsoft web publishing cloud solution by Igloo for our main News and Blogs for each department.. So a Power App, like a Leave Form, embedded in an iFrame is the preferred option, though we have to click a button to authenticate for the app to load. Can an SPFx or SPA be embedded in an iFrame on and authenticate via SSO?

    • @Andrew_Connell
      @Andrew_Connell 15 дней назад

      Sort of... that's called an isolated web part (rendered with an IFRAME vs. a DIV as it normally is), but Microsoft announced those would be retired (learn more in my video: ruclips.net/video/4cMLFpWB6bs/видео.html). As for SSO, you'll need for force a popup authentication as no reputable modern auth provider (Microsoft/Google/etc) allows their login prompts to be IFRAMEd and thus, subject to click jacking attacks.

The code is still working but I, as Site collection admin, don't have permission to access existing the content editor web part on the page. Neither I can find Content Editor web part to add. Can delete only. Don't know when the change happened. Was working a few months ago.

    • @MichaelFengWan
      @MichaelFengWan 18 дней назад

      @@Andrew_Connell It turns out our Security admin disabled CEWP because of security vulnerability. They allow us to get the source code out to move to modern site.

    • @Andrew_Connell
      @Andrew_Connell 18 дней назад

      OK... that's expected the CEWP (and Script Editor Web Part, aka: SEWP) are now considered as dangerous ways for people without necessary permissions to get custom script on pages. That's what the SharePoint Framework (SPFx) addresses, as it makes it so custom script can only get on pages via SPFx solutions which can only be deployed by those with appropriate permissions.

      @Andrew_Connell 22 дня назад

      Have you seen my other video on SharePoint Embedded? ruclips.net/video/gEU8NxNWLCI/видео.html In that video, I address some common scenarios. For example, if you want a specific workflow & process for users to follow, or if you want people who aren't in your M365 tenant to have the ability to upload/contribute files to it. Also, if your scenario needs to have full control over the UX working with files, SPE is ideal since you own the entire UX and access story, where as in SPO, you'd have to tell users to not use the document library UX or any of the other ways you can access content in the libraries (search/Teams/REST APIs, etc).

  • @mrkjartanvalur
    @mrkjartanvalur 25 дней назад

    @Andrew_Connell This is a great demo but It would be awesome to see a demo for the multitenant scenario as well. You could use the sandbox tenant option that Microsoft provides developers for this kind of scenario. I can´t find any demo that covers the multitenant aspect.

Do you mean you use SharePoint Add-ins to perform tasks that SharePoint doesn't do out of the box and you're looking for customizations? And if so, you're asking how to find similar customizations that are built using the SharePoint Framework and available in the app catalogs (ie: SharePoint store)?

    I have a E5 developer trial tenant that I've had for a couple of years now. I use it in the organisation I work for to test out SharePoint and AzureAD/Entra code before deploying it to our main tenant with an A3 subscription. My developer trial was recently renewed in May for 3 months (until August), which was useful as I'm currently using it for a local test for AzureAD/Entra logins

      One thing I didn't call out in my video - the changes apply to NEW tenants, not existing ones that are being renewed. So you should be good to go!

    Hi @Andrew_Connell, Do you think Microsoft will also move M365 Developer Tenants to something similar to the sandboxes in the Microsoft Learn modules?

      No... I expect we'll see them come back exactly as they were before this "lockdown" happened.
